UTC CCS division is seeking a Sustaining Mechanical Engineer who will be responsible for engineering support for legacy product lines at Kidde-Fenwal. Candidates for this position are to demonstrate exceptional and multi-dimensional skills in the areas of troubleshooting, project management, 3D modeling, and mechanical design techniques. Ability to work cross-functionally with other teams is essential.
This role is a part of UTC Re-Empower Program which helps support talented and committed professionals as they rebuild their capabilities, enhance leadership skills, and continue their professional journey. Over the course of this 16-week program, experienced professionals will gain paid, on-the-job experience, have an opportunity to participate in sessions with leadership, develop personalized plans for success and receive coaching to guide their return to work experience. Upon completion of the program, based on performance, Re-Empower participants may have an opportunity to convert to a full-time role.
Cohort III of the UTC Re-Empower Program will run from September 5, 2018 ? December 21, 2018.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
+ In a supportive engineering team environment, applies sound engineering principles and practice to lead sustaining engineering tasks relating to design, analysis, fabrication, modification and evaluation of mechanical parts, pressure vessels, valves, and various electro-mechanical systems
+ Contributes to the development of standard work to improve department efficiency and effectiveness, as well as the creation of design guidelines
+ Performs prototype testing and evaluations, root cause analysis on products and design/production processes; Participates in sustaining engineering tasks and projects with significant scope and complexity
+ Performs drawing reviews through the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process, conducts design reviews under the direction of the assigned technical leader. Ensures timely and accurate execution of ECOs
+ Interacts with various agencies and agency related issues pertaining to sustaining engineering activities
+ Leads DFMEA efforts for sustaining activities and ensures follow up on the actions from the DFMEA; Participates in PFMEA efforts
Qualification:
Minimum Program Qualifications
To qualify for the UTC Re-Empower Program, candidates should:
+ Currently be on a voluntary break of at least two years or more
+ Have a minimum of five years of professional work experience
+ Have an interest in returning to work in a full-time position
+ Have an ability to attend the Re-Empower Program Orientation at UTC Headquarters in Farmington, CT on September 5-7, 2018
KEY QUALIFICATIONS:
+ 3+ years of relevant engineering experience, where a good working knowledge of advanced engineering principles and techniques has been applied and demonstrated in mechanical design of pressurized equipment, valves, seals, etc. preferably in the fire protection industry
+ Excellent oral and written communication skills
+ Experience with test instruments and computer data acquisition
+ Ability to create read and understand drawings and production process documentation
+ Developed problem solving skills and identification of potential problems to mitigate
+ Proficient in 3D solid modeling (Solid Works or equivalent)
+ Proficient in MS Office applications (Excel, Word, and Powerpoint)
Education:
+ Bachelor?s degree in Engineering in a relevant technical field
+ Master?s degree in Engineering preferred

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
